Hey there! Mel here, and I'm the proud owner and lead planner of Melissa Alison Events. Originally from Perth, Western Australia, I decided to head to Canada to try living in a new country for a change of scenery... fast forward 10 years, I'm now a fully fledged Canadian citizen, a home owner in Cowtown, and loving life in this amazing country.
I love organizing. To the point where it may be a problem if you ask my better half. Spreadsheets are my guilty pleasure, and I get super excited over event logistics. After starting degrees in Computer Science, and then Fine Arts, I finally found a degree that spoke to my organizational obsession. In 2009 I graduated with a degree in Arts Management from the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts (name drop - Hugh Jackman also graduated from there, no big deal!). I moved on to work on numerous events and festivals, including the Perth leg of the Red Bull Air Race, local music festivals and conferences, City of Victoria Canada Day celebrations, think-tank collaboration conferences, and a local children's festival in Victoria.
I created Melissa Alison Events to help newly engaged couples navigate through the lengthy process that is planning a wedding. I truly love organizing, and wanted to be able to make a difference in the experience of a wedding day, so that the bride and groom can actually enjoy themselves and spend time with the people that matter the most to them.
Outside of coordinating an event or writing endless lists and spreadsheets, I'm usually at one of Calgary's 48 (and counting) craft breweries, obsessing over every dog I meet, travelling around the world with my better half Brendan, or watching epic UK crime dramas, while eating unhealthy amounts of cheese.
I would love to meet you, so please hit that contact button and get in touch!
